For this project I collaborated with photographer Alessandra Lucette and I was the concept and photo director. The intention behind this project was to bring attention to the Cyanobacteria issue that Lake Champlain faces. Cyanobacteria is a type of blue-green algae that has been suffocating Lake Champlain. "Swimming or wading in water with cyanobacteria may cause minor skin rashes, sore throats, diarrhea, stomach problems, or more serious health problems." (Vermont Department of Health). It also affects the biodiversity of the lake by blocking sunlight and choking out native plants that are important to the natural ecosystem. By styling our model Libby, as a lake monster cretin with Cyanobacteria inspired makeup and clothing, it ties in the negative effects of the bacteria in a fun, interesting, and eye-catching way in the hopes of bringing awareness to the issue.
